Get your free climate ticket for your 18th birthday now

One year of free public transport - a great gift from the government to all 18-year-olds! From 1.7.2024, young adults in Austria will be entitled to a free KlimaTicket Ö, provided they have celebrated or will celebrate their 18th birthday from 1.1.2024 and are resident in Austria.
The use of public transport should become second nature. Depending on the region, this can be easier or more difficult. In our age, which is characterized by the independence of the individual, this is often not so easy. Public transport has to be made attractive to us - the Austrian federal government has now budgeted 120 million euros for a special measure to this end.
How exactly does it work?
From their 18th birthday, young adults have three years to redeem their KlimaTicket Ö 18 once. The start of validity of the KlimaTicket Ö 18 can therefore be the day of the 18th birthday at the earliest and the day before the 21st birthday at the latest. The maximum advance booking period of one month applies for the issue.
The KlimaTicket Ö 18 can be obtained from all sales and service points. An overview can be found here. Please note, however, that the KlimaTicket Ö 18 is not available from Wiener Linien for the time being.
All information about the climate ticket can be found here.
What does the climate ticket include?
The climate ticket is equivalent to an annual pass for almost all public transportation in Austria. Tourist services such as the Schneebergbahn, Wachaubahn, Schafbergbahn, etc. are excluded.
That's €1,095 per year - at first glance that sounds expensive, but it actually means €3 per day.
Travelers with a handicap or up to and including the age of 25 or 65 and over pay only €821.
Children and young people under the age of 15 can travel for an extra charge of €110.
Around 245,000 people in Austria have a climate ticket.
