AT.INTERMODAL supports the biodiversity initiative of KlimafitWald!
AT.INTERMODAL, has decided to use its innovative strength and resources to promote biodiversity. In collaboration with KlimafitWald and pro.earth, the company is supporting several key projects under the motto "Biodiversity", which aim to protect endangered ecosystems and preserve biodiversity. This is because the climate crisis is also a crisis for biodiversity. Never before have so many species been endangered. KlimafitWald is working intensively to improve the current situation.
The importance of biodiversity and measures to promote it
Biodiversity, or biological diversity, encompasses the multitude of species, genes and ecosystems on earth. This diversity is crucial for the balance of nature and our human well-being. It secures food, regulates the climate, purifies air and water and provides numerous other ecosystem services.
This is why the KlimafitWald has launched the "Biodiversity" project. It comprises various initiatives designed to support diversity, such as the "climate-fit forest" project.
Climate fitter forest
In times of climate change, the call for sustainable measures in the forestry sector is becoming ever louder. Monocultures, as they were often practiced in the past, are proving vulnerable to changing environmental conditions. As a result of this realization, the conversion of spruce monocultures into diverse mixed forests is becoming increasingly important. For this reason, the "Klimafitter Wald" project is dedicated to reforestation with native, locally grown young trees, mostly deciduous species, which are adapted to the respective locations and are intended to form a mixed-age, climate-resistant forest in the future. The project also includes the establishment of trial areas, where different species are planted and their growth monitored to find out which species are particularly suitable.
The following examples are also part of our comprehensive biodiversity strategy:
- Nesting aids: Promotion of breeding sites for birds and other animals.
- Crayfish diversity: protecting native crayfish and improving water quality.
- Orchard meadow: Preservation of traditional orchards that provide a habitat for numerous species.
- Lean grassland: Maintenance of flower-rich meadows, which are an important habitat for many endangered species.
- Bee sponsorship: We provide Carnica bees with a suitable habitat in the KlimafitWald forest
These initiatives are part of a comprehensive strategy to promote biodiversity. Targeted measures not only promote biodiversity, but also strengthen the ecological balance and sustainability. In cooperation with KlimafitWald, AT.INTERMODAL is thus making an important contribution to protecting our natural resources and improving our quality of life.
