Winter weekend - make yourselves comfortable!

All those blessed enough to spend this weekend on the slopes are of course exempt - the others do everything they need to feel good. For me, it's the smoky aroma of smoked meat and fresh bread with bacon lentils, which fill me with comforting warmth.

The whole glory can of course also be prepared without meat. If you don't want to leave it out, please pay particular attention to the origin. I buy mine from my neighbor's farm store - but of course I'm aware that not everyone is so lucky.

It goes without saying that all ingredients must be of good, sustainable quality.

So if you want to choose a special playlist for such occasions or even put on a record, please do so first and foremost. Then comes the apron and, if you like, the lipstick.

It's important to note that I baked the bread in the picture myself, but the recipe would go way beyond the scope of this post. So if you want to, bake according to your own recipe or buy a good sourdough bread from your trusted baker.

We need:

Smoked meat (not ready to eat, please - we want to cook it and make it smell good!)

¼ kg dried lentils

1 pc. Onion

Bacon (for me: from the neighbor)

Bread spice

Marjoram

Tomato paste

Juniper berries

Bay leaves

Peppercorns

Oil

💚 Cover the smoked meat with water, add the juniper berries and bay leaf and simmer until it slides easily off a meat fork

💚 Fry the onion, add the lentils and bread spice and a little tomato puree, then pour in approx. 1 liter of water

💚 Add bay leaf, marjoram, peppercorns (everything except salt) and leave to simmer uncovered

💚 After about 1 hour, everything should be ready, then season with salt and perhaps a splash of vinegar to taste

💚 If you have bacon, cut it into cubes and fry it (without adding fat - this makes the cubes crispier)

💚 Finally, place the cubes over the lentils

Set the table with the Sunday dishes, put your apron down, call everyone to dinner - have fun!!!
