Simplified ESG reporting: New EU regulations facilitate access to sustainable financing
Thanks to the EU's simplification measures in February 2025, many companies can now gain access to sustainable financing and investments with a simple ESG report.
The regulation stipulates that a large proportion of companies in their supply chain will only have to provide information that complies with the EU's voluntary VSME reporting standards for SMEs. This is intended to protect companies from excessive information requirements.
In future, the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) will only apply to companies with more than 1,000 employees and either a turnover of more than 50 million euros or a balance sheet total of more than 25 million euros. This means that around 80% of the companies originally covered will be exempt from the CSRD reporting obligation.
