Burgenland is aiming to be climate-neutral by 2030. In order to achieve this, the province has developed a comprehensive climate and energy strategy. This strategy includes the strong expansion of photovoltaic systems.
Package of measures to reduceCO2 emissions
Burgenland is already implementing various measures to reduce itsCO2 footprint. The long-term goal is to reduce annualCO2 emissions from the current 2 million tons to zero by 2030. Wind and solar energy are seen as key pillars for sustainable energy production.
Wind farms
Burgenland is achieving success in the field of wind power: there are currently 17 wind farms that produce more than 1 billion kilowatt hours of green electricity every year.
Expansion of photovoltaics
The expansion of photovoltaics has also already begun in Burgenland, and 18,000m2 of roof surfaces on state-owned buildings have been classified as suitable for photovoltaics.
Furthermore, the municipalities and the population are actively involved in order to achieve the climate targets earlier than 2030.
In addition, solutions are offered for large companies that want to equip their company buildings with PV systems. These can also act as an energy community and feed their surplus electricity into the public grid.
Funding for e-mobility
In addition, Burgenland plans to have the highest proportion of e-cars in Austria by 2030, which would lead to savings of over 100,000 tons of CO2. There are financial incentives and subsidies.
However, in addition to wind power and photovoltaic systems, we also need a mix of different measures - from geothermal energy to the production and use of biogas and hydrogen.
