To generate energy from hydropower, the power of flowing water is used to produce energy. Hydropower is a renewable energy source as it will not run out as long as there is water.

There are different types of hydropower plants

Dams

Rivers are dammed and their water collected in reservoirs. It is released in a controlled manner to drive turbines. This is how generators are turned and electrical energy is produced.

Run-of-river power plants

In contrast to dams, these systems use the natural flow of water to drive turbines.

Tidal power plants

The movement of the sea at low and high tide is used in such systems to generate energy. They are therefore naturally found in coastal areas.

Wave power plants

Ocean waves also have a lot of power. This is used to drive generators and thus produce electrical energy. Such power plants are particularly useful in regions with strong ocean currents.

Hydropower is an environmentally friendly source of energy as it emits little or no toxic gases that are harmful to the environment and health (emissions).

However, negative effects on the environment can result from the disruption of ecosystems by dams and also from a change in water flow.

Nevertheless, hydropower is an important and widespread renewable energy source.

Welcome to Saving energy at school. Here you will find detailed information on the topics from our Metaverse room.

The Metaverse room consists of 7 rooms:
- Entrance
- Energy
- Energy saving
- Future
- Auditorium
- Cinema
- Tasks

In the rooms you will find various articles that you can open on the Internet by clicking on "View".

Start your puzzle rally in the task room. You can also download the game instructions here.

Travel through three different levels and solve all the tasks. Each answer has a code number that you need to unlock the final quiz. Enter all the code numbers in your game instructions!

Once you have completed all the tasks, travel through the final quiz portal in the task room and enter your solution password there to check whether you have solved all the tasks correctly.
