You might think it's an April Fool's joke. Saudi Arabia is hosting the 2029 Asian Winter Games, as was announced earlier this week. In a desert region. The city and infrastructure for the games first have to be built.
To make the whole thing appear more sustainable, the snow cannons will only be operated with green electricity. It is not yet clear where the water will come from.
Our pro.earth conclusion: We know in which direction humanity must move in order to preserve a livable world for our grandchildren. How can it be that huge sums of money are still being spent on such absurd, ecologically disastrous projects? How much good could be achieved with the same amount of money ....
