CAPE 10 - Melting pot and refuge

CAPE 10 is a special "meeting place for everyone" - in the middle of Vienna's 10th district. CAPE 10 is a modern social and health center in the newly established Sonnwendviertel district, close to Vienna Central Station. A center for all people - including socially and health disadvantaged people, especially women, children and young people. The non-profit CAPE 10 Foundation has set itself the goal of alleviating the suffering of people who are in need through no fault of their own, especially if they have fallen on hard times due to illness.

Hand in hand

"It is very important to combine the ecological and social aspects, as a lot of people live in a small space in a city. You have to manage the space created in a climate-friendly way," says Dr. Andreas Köttl from Value One, the managing director responsible for the construction of CAPE 10.

CAPE 10 has received gold certification from the ÖGNI (Austrian Sustainable Building Council). The green façade and green roof terrace help to cool the building in an environmentally friendly way during the warm summer months. "It was important to me to green three out of four sides of the building, and the roof terrace, including the wooden structure, will also be completely greened. Our partner is Wien Energie, which is also doing a bit of research here and has installed an irrigation system that is controlled by sensors and only irrigates the areas where water is needed. This means there is no waste of water. I simply want to have a green house," says Prof. Dr. Siegfried Meryn, Chairman of the CAPE 10 Foundation.

A small forest in an urban space

Value One's latest innovation project is the so-called TINY FOREST, which has been created on the site on an area of 450m2. Dr. Andreas Köttl, experienced construction manager, commented: "We were allowed to develop the project, so we were involved right from the start and contributed our services pro bono. That's why it was important for us to make another innovative contribution today. With the Tiny Forest, we want to make an active contribution and set new accents in the Viennese cityscape. The Sonnwendviertel district has grown considerably in recent years. This small urban forest in a densely built-up urban area will mean cooling in summer and better air in the surrounding area. It is a vivid example for children and adults alike of how climate protection can work on a small scale.

A wide range of products under one roof

CAPE 10 is intended to be a place for participation, inclusion and migration, a role model for social coexistence in the heart of Vienna.
