Free climate ticket for your 18th birthday

One year of free public transport - a great gift from the government to all 18-year-olds from 2024.

The use of public transport should become second nature. Depending on the region, this can be easier or more difficult. In our age, which is characterized by the independence of the individual, this is often not so easy. Public transport needs to be made attractive to us - the Austrian federal government has now budgeted 120 million euros for a special measure.

From 2024, young people will receive the Austria-wide climate ticket free of charge for one year on their 18th birthday. From then on, they will have three years to take advantage of it.

What does the climate ticket include?

The climate ticket is equivalent to an annual pass for almost all public transportation in Austria. Tourist services such as the Schneebergbahn, Wachaubahn, Schafbergbahn, etc. are excluded.

That's €1,095 per year - at first glance that sounds expensive, but it actually means €3 per day.

Travelers with a handicap or up to and including the age of 25 or 65 and over pay only €821.

Children and young people under the age of 15 can travel for an extra charge of €110.

Around 245,000 people in Austria have a climate ticket.
