Kühtai mountain railroads expand alternative power generation - winter sports with a slightly better conscience?

Winter vacations can also be more responsible - thanks to the new photovoltaic system for operating the lift and an ecological drive system for the snow groomers.

"For many years, Bergbahnen Kühtai has been making great efforts to ensure that the ski resort is energy self-sufficient in the long term. With the expansion of the photovoltaic systems, part of the Kaiser-Kabinen-Bahn's electricity requirements are now generated by the resort itself," says Philip Haslwanter, Managing Director of Bergbahnen Kühtai.

Numerous new photovoltaic modules on the roof and façade of the pumping station and on the Haus des Tourismus provide electricity all year round to bring winter sports enthusiasts up the mountain sustainably. In addition to their own electricity production, the cable cars are supplied with 100% green electricity by Tyrolean energy producer TIWAG.

The Kühtai snow groomers run on synthetic, biodegradable fuel

The drive system for the snow groomers has also been greatly improved from an ecological perspective. With Shell GTL Fuel, an innovative, synthetic fuel (gas-to-liquids) is now available, which is obtained from natural gas and reduces local emissions. Haslwanter: "Our new fuel significantly improves air quality and has a positive effect on the health of people, animals and nature. What is particularly important to us is that the fuel is biodegradable."

Sustainable vacations in the Kühtai ski area

Kühtai has already made numerous important investments in the sustainability of its vacation offerings. These include the biomass heating plant, which uses exclusively local biomass from a radius of 50 kilometers and replaces around 1 million liters of heating oil per year. The Kaisersee reservoir is filled naturally for snow production on the slopes, saving the energy-intensive pumping of water. And in winter, the connections at Innsbruck main station and Ötztal Bahnhof make it particularly easy to travel by public transport.
