France promotes carpooling with up to 200 euros

The government has now used the 50 million empty seats in France's cars as an opportunity to create an incentive for carpooling.

If you drive to work in France, you can consider registering with the carpooling platform Karos and giving other commuters a lift.

If this happens ten times within three months, you will initially receive 100 euros. For longer distances: 100 euros for three journeys.

However, the money will not be paid out, but distributed to the public in the form of vouchers (it is not yet clear whether this will only be for refueling).

Furthermore, separate lanes or exit points for car pools are being considered.

With this project, the French government hopes to increase the number of carpooling opportunities from 900,000 per month to 3 million, thereby saving 4.5 million tons of CO2. Of course, the financial aspect should not be underestimated given the current fuel and energy prices.

pro.earth conclusion:

We think the idea of carpooling is great and believe that this is a good model to meet the current demands in the mobility sector - and it could also be fun. 💚
