Veronika, spring is here!

For all spring fans (and I don't know anyone personally who isn't), it's the start of a new lease of life. That's why we've decided to give it a particularly warm welcome - March March

Where did he get his name?

None other than the Roman god of war, Mars, gave March its name. The old German name Lenzing or Lenzmond suggests that Lenz moves into the countryside in March.

Its history

As I said, it brings spring to us inhabitants of the northern hemisphere and was even the first month of the year in the early Roman calendar - January and February were non-existent.

It was only later (450 BC) that the beginning of the year was postponed and January was "invented". This was retained in the Julian calendar and finally also in the Gregorian calendar used today.

Spring or fall - a question of location

In the northern hemisphere it heralds spring, south of the equator it heralds fall - in this case we are very happy about our location.

The seasonal calendar becomes more colorful

Our menu of winter storage varieties is expanded in March to include wild garlic, rahabarber, chicory, lamb's lettuce, spinach, cabbage sprouts (Brussels sprouts), Jerusalem artichokes and parsnips.

Spring lets out its blue ribbon

flutter through the air again.

Sweet, familiar fragrances

roam the land forebodingly.

Violets are already dreaming,

want to come soon.

Hark, from afar a soft harp sound!

Spring, yes you are!

I have heard you.

Eduard Mörike (1804-1875)

The waiting, the retreat, the contemplation has come to an end. We open the windows, the sun shines again with growing strength, the first buds sprout, the green becomes more lush. The soundtrack changes from muted silence and muffled whispering to cheerful chirping. There is a whirring in the air.

Even though I love winter with all my heart, I can only agree with the words of the well-known children's song WINTER ADÉ...

..., but your parting makes my heart smile.

Welcome spring, welcome new beginnings, greetings, waning day - glad you're here! 💚
