Digital transformation of mobility - the master plan for increased efficiency and lower CO2 emissions

Managing traffic better, promoting sustainable mobility solutions or providing real-time information - the digitalization of the mobility system can do just that and more. The "Digital Transformation of Mobility" tender aims to use existing and new technologies in such a way that they are efficient and sustainable for road users. In addition, suitable organizational framework conditions are to be created. Submissions will be funded with a total of 3.2 million euros, endowed with funds from the Ministry of Climate Protection (BMK).

The "Digital Transformation in Mobility" action plan initiated by the BMK builds on the "Mobility Master Plan 2030" presented in 2021 and defines the key measures for digitalization in the mobility sector in Austria for the coming years.

Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler: "Transport is still the problem child in climate protection. By digitizing our transport system, we can manage traffic better, provide multimodal real-time information and promote sustainable mobility options. All of these are essential components of the transport transition. I am therefore very pleased that further initiatives for the implementation of the measures in the 'Digital Transformation in Mobility' action plan are being funded with 3.2 million euros."

Climate and Energy Fund Managing Director Bernd Vogl: "A sustainable transformation of the mobility system is important in order to use resources more efficiently and overcome traffic problems. It not only promotes innovation in the mobility sector, but also strengthens the economy and safeguards the health of the population."

This year's call for proposals covers eight key areas:

  • Integration of local/regional mobility services in information platforms
  • Improved data collection for foot/cycle traffic
  • Improved data collection of stationary traffic
  • Preparation for data collection for multimodal travel information services - static data
  • Preparation for data collection for multimodal travel information services - dynamic data
  • National SIRI (Standard Interface for Real-time Information) profile
  • Possible implementation of "UVAR" (Urban Vehicle Access Regulations) in Austria
  • Automated mobility - Readiness Framework

A research and development service (R&D service) is to be awarded in each priority area. These are intended to develop a knowledge base and decision-making basis for the creation of framework conditions for a rapid digital transformation in mobility.
