Beloved tuber from the earth

It can be both high class and street, it is winter and summer, fasting and gluttonous - a food like a friend to steal a horse. We love apples from the earth!

 

Today we are singing the praises of the potato - during a brief discussion over morning coffee in the editorial office, we unanimously decided that it was time, because we were in complete agreement: we love potatoes!

Whether boiled, roasted, braised, deep-fried, mashed, au gratin, soup, pastry, goulash, pancakes, sweet or savory - potatoes always work.

So there are no limits to your imagination when it comes to clearing out your winter supplies.

 

Spicy potatoes

This topic is almost inexhaustible. Grandma's legendary potato goulash with a spoonful of sour cream and dumplings or the old Viennese potato soup with dried porcini mushrooms, partly strained, wonderfully sinful puree, not to mention the deliciously sour roasted potatoes (my grandma called them "roasted dog").

They are far more than just a side dish, but they also cut a fine figure as such and readily illuminate the main course in the ideal light.

But we also love sweet potato dough! In the form of a coating around plums, strawberries or apricots, around Mozart balls or nougat cubes, but also as wuzin noodles with poppy seeds or nuts, not forgetting the highlight of the culinary feast, melt-in-the-mouth Powidltascherl.

But these are just the classics.

Have you ever heard of potato cake, sweet potato pancakes with apple sauce or potato pancakes with curd cheese?

The variety of enjoyment around the much-loved tuber is limitless.
