Climate protection also works in the club scene

The new Green Club Guide offers all club managers and organizers valuable tips on how to not only protect the climate but also save money with easy-to-implement measures - from more sustainable bar operations, less waste and green electricity to LED lighting on the dance floor and efficient ventilation and heating.

"This guide is another important contribution that proves that events, sustainability and climate protection are not contradictions, but can be combined very well," emphasizes Vienna's Climate Councillor Jürgen Czernohorszky. "If these measures also help event organizers to save costs, the path to climate neutrality will finally become a win-win situation."

"Vienna has a growing and diverse range of innovative club culture, event locations and music venues. This makes the scene not only a relevant economic factor and an attractive offer in city tourism, but also has great potential in terms of sustainability and climate protection. With the Vienna Club Commission's Green Guide, we are supporting the Viennese club scene in recognizing operational opportunities relating to the environment and climate and implementing them sustainably for their own business success," says City Councillor for Economic Affairs Peter Hanke.

Climate protection and ecological sustainability

With an ecologically sustainable design, the CO2 emissions of the operation can be significantly reduced and the climate-neutral city can be actively shaped by the Viennese club scene. The Green Club Guide Vienna was developed by the Vienna Club Commission with the support of the City of Vienna - Environmental Protection and OekoBusiness Vienna.

It provides tips in eight fields of action on how easy-to-implement measures can not only protect the climate, but also save energy and operating costs. There is a checklist with recommendations and an article with additional information for each area of action.

The Green Club Guide facilitates research and clarifies some of the myths surrounding the topics of energy efficiency and ecological action in the club and event sector. Information on existing advisory services and funding programs helps with the implementation of measures.

Diverse Viennese club culture

The Viennese club scene is an essential part of Vienna's cultural offering. Over 100 venues offer a wide range - from artistically sophisticated niche events to curated mainstream programs.

As socially, culturally and economically relevant places, Vienna's clubs are important multipliers for social activation in order to bring about change in terms of environmental sustainability. They therefore have all the prerequisites to act as a platform and role model for positive change towards a climate-friendly world.
