Let's not run our mouths too full...

If you prefer to use toothpaste without arsenic or mutagenic substances, you'd better read this.

Arsenic

... is carcinogenic in inorganic form even at low doses and can cause developmental and nervous disorders when used long-term

Lead

... can accumulate in the body and has long been regarded as toxic to the nerves. Even in small amounts, it can cause headaches, fatigue and weight loss.

Surfactants

... irritate mucous membranes and generally make them more permeable

We probably don't want to administer all this and more twice a day, so we advise you to take a closer look.

At a glance:

  • 48 universal toothpastes were tested, including 17 products with natural cosmetics certification.
  • 19 toothpastes failed with a rating of "poor" or "unsatisfactory", including surprisingly well-known brands.
  • Only 13 out of 48 products manage the major task of protecting against tooth decay.

You can download the entire result as an e-paper here.

When buying toothpaste, we pay attention to:

  • Fluoride: the most important ingredient in toothpastes for adults against tooth decay
  • If sodium lauryl sulfate (sodium lauryl s ulfate) is declared on the packaging - hands off!
  • Zinc: For teenagers and children with permanent teeth, parents' toothpaste should only be used if it does not contain zinc, because too much zinc over a longer period of time can weaken the immune system, and children and teenagers exceed the recommended amount more quickly than adults.
