Saving the world with biochar - Part 2 "You can char anything"

"For me, biochar is a miracle worker," says Dominik Dunst, son of Gerald Dunst, the founder of Sonnenerde GMBH in Pinkafeld in Burgenland. Biochar can be produced from all conceivable forms of biomass.

In Gerald Dunst's unique facility, for example, the shells of sunflower seeds, spelt husks and apricot kernels are stabilized to produce biochar. This is done by pyrolysis. By heating to 600 to 700 degrees in the absence of air, part of the biomass is degassed and pure carbon remains. 50% of the carbon in the biomass is thus stabilized and made extremely valuable in Gerald Dunst's plant.

And: "Very, very important: we do not char pure wood chips. We find this raw material far too valuable for the production of biochar, which is why we have focused on biomass residues," Dominik emphasizes. Many thanks to @SonnenerdeYT for the visit.
